About Rodney Risner
Rodney is a black belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu. He started as a fan of the UFC and started training with his father-in-law Andy Mercer in 2006 under the tutelage of Jonathan Burke (Royce Gracie’s first black belt). In 2012, he started teaching at the 6 Levels Orlando. In 2015, Rodney earned his black belt under Jonathan Burke. All of his promotions from white to black belt have been under the direction of Jonathan Burke.
In 2017, he opened Rodjitsu Martial Arts Academy in Apopka with his wife Michelle.
Rodney has turned his love of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu into a full-time job and is doing it with his entire family.

What’s the recommended attire for my child during class?
We suggest wearing comfortable athletic clothing. For martial arts, a uniform is required and can be purchased directly from us.
Am I allowed to observe my child’s classes?
Absolutely! Parents are welcome to watch classes from our designated viewing area—we want you to stay connected to your child’s martial arts progress.
What age groups do you accept for your programs?
We offer classes for children, teens, and adults, starting as young as 4 years old.
How do you ensure the safety of the students?
Safety is our top priority. Our facilities are cleaned daily by a professional cleaning company. Our lead instructors are certified in CPR and first aid yearly and our facilities are equipped with first aid kits as well as AEDs.
